With over 10,000 companies employing some 400,000 people and generating a turnover of more than 140 billion euros, the agri-food industry is undoubtedly one of the assets of the French economy.
The leading industrial sector of our country ahead of automobiles and electronics, agri-food has numerous assets. Drawing upstream on productive agriculture and, downstream, on strong distribution, it has a commanding presence on the international stage. Organised around several major international groups that are the world leaders in their field – Danone, Lactalis, Bongrain, Pernod-Ricard and Terrena – and a talented group of small or medium enterprises (85% of the total) across the country, it accounts for approximately 10% of the global market in its field of activity. In terms of processed products, it is even the world’s top exporter ahead of the United States. In terms of workforce, the agri-food sector is the third industrial employer in our country behind mechanics and metalwork.
